Transformation of a Diary

In order for Elizabeth Frankowski's diary to made broadly available for viewing localy here in Toledo, it had to undergo several transformations. The original diary was handwritten in Mrs. Frankowski's native Polish, accompanied by hand-drawn illustrations. This manuscript was than transcribed, that is, Mrs. Frankowski's words were typed out so they could be laid out in a book in a way more easily read. Finally, in order for the non-Polish speaker to be able to access this material, the Polish was translated into English. You can see how this process changed the title page in its three incarnations. In the following gallery you can see how it affected other pages of the book as well.
